For sale is a very sweet antique 19th century unframed figural sampler that I acquired in New England. I believe that it is silk on unbleached linen, but if someone more knowledgeable has more accurate information, I would greatly appreciate it. In addition to two versions of the uppercase alphabet, there is a wreath in the center with the letter "A" in the middle flanked by cross, probably a grave marker, on the left, and a chalice on top of a book on the right. This may indicate that the sampler was made as some kind of memorial, although I don't know for sure. In addition, there are images of a dog with a bird on a branch behind him, a group of different flowers, and a rabbit in a garden. There is also a horizontal row of what looks like a strawberry vine, the vertical borders are morning glories, and the horizontal ones are red flowers of some kind. The sampler measures about 16" x 15" and is in nice antique condition with some toning and small holes around the perimeter where the piece must have been nailed to a wood backing at one time, but it displays very well. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions or for additional photos.
