Exceptional dome top folk-art Swedish box c. 1820-1840 showing mostly intact decorative painting over a rich patina-ed ground. Lid boasts a delightful central floral motif framed by a crisp crosshatch bordered trim. Constructed with traditional snipe hinges, the interior remains unpainted exhibiting warm oxidation. A faint inference of a penciled historic collection or inheritance inscription on the inner lid appears to read (“5/1 1904”). Offered with honest wear consistent with age. Paint is strong showing exciting color. Partial element for front closure is missing as well as an old horizontal crack across the back panel. A chip is located on the edge of the front top panel (right hand side). Box remains structurally intact and displays exceedingly well. Rare find that offers folk-art collectors a chance to welcome in this special piece. Nice miniature size measuring in at 4.5" L x 2.5" W x 3.25" H. More pictures Available.
