Delightful & stylized sampler dated 1840 was hand wrought by (Elizabeth Petr). Most likely Pennsylvania region or mid Atlantic, this piece is worked with natural dyed silks on a linen ground. Elizabeth probably implemented the motifs first then placed her inscription wherever she could as paper was rare to make a pattern. Features an upper & lower case alphabet along with a wonderful array of classic American folk-art motifs residing below. Mid-section showcases a charming house while the center-field focal point portrays an urn flanked by cheerful flowers. Another urn delights us showing sprouting flowers with the split text "Sam Pler" just above. Textile is in stable antique condition with minuscule fading along with loose threads and loss. The border is a stylized classic strawberry vine pattern, displaying charming thread variation. Light toning at random. Treated to premium museum-quality archival framing by the renowned shop, “The Strawberry Sampler”, (Chadds Ford, PA) and housed in a handsome dentil-moulding frame behind True Guard protective UV glass with a pristine paper backing is a plus. Nice condition and displays well! More pictures. 19 1/2" H x 11 1/4" W x 3/4"
