This oval board likely made by the Shaker Brother, Thomas Fisher. Thomas Fisher (1823–1902) worked on of the Enfield village in Connecticut. Thomas Fisher's unique story led him to becoming a Shaker of impressive ability and distinct style. He joined the Shakers in Enfield, Connecticut and though many Shakers were raised in the faith, he was already over 50 when he came to live at the Church Family. He was likely already trained in woodworking when he arrived, for his pieces show a Victorian influence that was unlike most traditional Shaker woodwork. One style element that he is particularly known for is using contrasting dark and light wood in the same piece. He was also influential and convincing the Shaker Community to sell his items.
